Christmas is the time of year for remembering what's really important... and by that I mean "having to get a gift for someone as a Secret Santa in your family." Or your office, or your group of friends, or however you break it down: Christmas is all about having to get a gift for that um... not-so-special someone who, even though they're just the guy from accounting or your brother-in-law, still deserves some thought put into their gift and a nice present.
The trouble is, if you're like me, and you drew, say, your brother-in-law, you need to get him a good gift and you know almost nothing about him. He's a great guy but a great guy I see maybe four times a year, and what we have in common really is that we both wanted there to be more pie at Thanksgiving.
I know he likes sports, but I'm not sure which teams (or even which sports), and I know he likes books, but I don't know what he's read.
One thing I know about him, though, is he needs to know what time it is, and he wants to look good. That's why I hit on the idea of getting him the seiko dive watch shown here. While I'm pretty sure he doesn't scuba dive (I probably would've heard about that) the dive watch is good for the things I know he does, like "work outdoors" and "hunt" and "tell time."
It's solid stainless steel, with a rubber strap, it's self-winding, and it's scratch- and water-resistant; plus it comes with a 3-year warranty and it's nice-looking and not too expensive (I get watches at Blue Dial: BlueDial.com).
At the family Christmas, I'll be able to give him that present and keep my standing in the family as a decent guy -- it's a great gift, and I know he'll like it.
Now, as for what to get my boss...I wonder if he needs to know what time it is?
